The "Mortal Kombat" franchise has been around for quite a while now, having originally appeared as a fighting video game title in 1992. The franchise has grown to be a well-known worldwide property that includes various movies, television series, comic books, and video games. The recently released 10th installment in the video game franchise, "Mortal Kombat X," which was released last year, has managed to once again bring the franchise to the international limelight, which is probably why talks about a brand new movie have been revived.

The franchise itself was previously adapted into two major motion pictures, namely "Mortal Kombat" in 1995 and "Mortal Kombat: Annihilation" in 1997. Now, Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema are once again moving the cogs to bring to life yet another movie, which is planned to be a full reboot that will be bringing the characters of the game into the big screens once again. According to new reports, the companies have now acquired a new director in the form of veteran commercial director, Simon McQuiod to helm the project.

McQuiod will be replacing Kevin Tancharoen who left the project back in 2013 to pursue other creative opportunities. The new director will be working with James Wan who is on board as the producer for the reboot movie. It has also been revealed that Greg Russo will be penning the script for the reboot.

Fans of the franchise have been waiting a while now for a brand new "Mortal Kombat" movie, and it seems like they may have to wait a little longer as the new director has mentioned that he has no plans to rush the project because he wants to do it right. McQuiod is well known for his award-winning commercials which involve a number of ad campaigns for companies such as Range Rover, Sony PlayStation, Duracell, Samsung and Halo.
