The new character that will join the list of fighters in the upcoming Mortal Kombat X is not really new at all.

On Tuesday, NetherRealms Studios and Warner Bros. released a trailer showing the return of Reptile in the game.

The trailer showed the iconic Mortal Kombat character challenging another classic character Kung Lao in the soon-to-be released game. Reptile's signature tongue and venom is still featured in the new game.

The repulsive character showed his unique skills during the trailer, ripping Kung Lao's appendages apart then finishing off with a venomous spray that targeted his opponent's face. The venom melted through his skin, then Reptile took the opportunity to grab his enemy's skull to squeeze it before he made the final fatal blow to end the battle.

Both Reptile and Kung Lao are included in the roster of classic characters in the upcoming Mortal Kombat X. They will be joined by other legendary Mortal Kombat fighters like Raiden, Kano, Sub-Zero, Scorpion, and Kitana.

Mortal Kombat X will also introduce several new characters, including Cassie Cage, the daughter of classic Mortal Kombat characters Johnny Cage and Sonya Blade, the insect woman called D'Vorah, the Aztec-looking "blood god" Kotal Kahn, and the duo composed of Ferra and Torr.

The announcement of Reptile's return was widely accepted by players all over the world. During the launch of the new Mortal Kombat X trailer, Reptile became one of Twitter's top ten trending topics worldwide.

However, Reptile's return is not the only biggest character inclusion news from the game developer. Ed Boon, the game director for Mortal Kombat X, teased fans on his Twitter account that another character reveal will be made on Thursday, January 29. It will also feature a new game play demonstration.

The new Mortal Kombat X will follow the 2011 Mortal Kombat release. It is expected to be launched on April 14 across all platforms.
