Mortal Kombat X DLC - Kombat Pack 2 announcementNetherRealms Studios

Ed Boon, "Mortal Kombat" co-creator and current head of NetherRealms Studios, revealed via Twitter that "Mortal Kombat X" will indeed receive new character DLCs by 2016. According to Boon's reveal, four additional characters will be added to the game, although their identities haven't been posted yet.

A few DLC characters have thus far been added to the game: Jason Voorhees from the "Friday the 13th" film franchise, Predator from the film franchise of the same name, and "Mortal Kombat" regulars, Tanya and Tremor.

According to a report from Screen Rant, the silhouettes in Boon's post indicate that the characters may be Baraka, DC's The Joker, Cyrax or Smoke, and Bo' Rai Cho. Other possibilities include Rain, Noob Saibot, Sindel, and Kabal. "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" character Kylo Ren was also cited as a possible character.

The Joker was mentioned due to NetherRealms Studios' previous games which include "Injustice: Gods Among Us," which takes place in the DC comic book universe. The report also mentioned Boon's reply to a fan inquiry about Marvel characters ever popping up in "Mortal Kombat" to which he stated, "You lost me at Marvel."

Both Baraka and Bo' Rai Cho have appeared in the game's official story mode but are currently unavailable for players to use. However, several gamers have unlocked Baraka by hacking into the game, discovering that the character's move set and animations are already included in the title.

In addition to four new characters, the "Kombat Pack 2" DLC will also add new skins and environments to the game.

"Mortal Kombat X" remains as the best-selling title of 2015 despite the recent announcement that the version for the Xbox 360 and PS3 have been officially cancelled due to the port's inability to meet the developer's quality standards. "Mortal Kombat X" is currently available for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
