The top-selling game of 2015 for the first six months of the year is none other than the action-packed fighting game, "Mortal Kombat X."

The sales figures were compiled by the NPD Group, a market research company.

Despite most chart toppers usually leaning more towards single player role-playing titles or first-person shooters with a long and substantial lineage, "Mortal Kombat X" has managed to nab the top spot with its collection of unique fighters pulling off a variety of violent moves.

"Mortal Kombat X" ending up on the top spot is also significant because of the publisher it belongs to.

With the fighting game snagging top honors, Warner Bros. claims two other top 10 titles to go with its chart topper, according to Fortune.

The other two top 10 finishers from Warner Bros. include "Batman: Arkham Knight," which finished at number six, and "Dying Light," which followed at number seven.

"Batman: Arkham Knight" finishing at number six is particularly notable given the fact that the game was released fairly recently, and also the fact that the personal computer (PC) version of the game has been removed from store shelves as problems with the said version continued to persist.

As for the rest of the top 10, none can really be labeled as being surprise entrants.

"Grand Theft Auto 5" finished second on the list while "Battlefield: Hardline" followed at third. Rounding out the rest of the top five were "Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare" ending up in fourth place and "Minecraft" trailing behind, according to Game Rant.

The other three titles that made it to the top 10 include "NBA 2K15" at eighth, "The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt" finishing ninth, and none other than "Super Smash Bros." ending up as the last entry on the list.

The list accounts only for sales figures during the first six months of the year, so a different title could very well end up on the top spot by year's end.
