The latest installment in NetherRealm Studio's "Mortal Kombat" fighting video game series — "Mortal Kombat X" — was released more than a year ago but the game still remains to be quite popular amongst gamers despite the slew of brand new games out in the market.

One of the main reasons for this has been the studio's continuous support for the game with the addition of several downloadable content (DLC) packs and brand new characters.

As of the moment, fans are looking forward to the game's third main DLC expansion pack, dubbed "Kombat Pack 3." Unfortunately, there has been no concrete announcement yet as to when the new DLC would be coming out.

The game's co-creator — Ed Boon — has been no help either as he has only been providing teasers that have not really revealed anything substantial regarding the DLCs possible release date. According to several reports, there is a possibility that the DLC might not be coming out so soon, as the developers are still very much preoccupied with an entirely different project.

Reports have revealed that NetherRealm is currently still busy polishing up the latest installment in their "Injustice" series of fighting video games, "Injustice 2." The game is the highly awaited sequel to "Injustice: Gods Among Us, " which was released back in 2013.

The sequel is expected to be coming out early next year, and it wouldn't be a good business move to release the "Mortal Kombat X" DLC alongside the upcoming title.

Given its expected release date, the new DLC expansion pack for "Mortal Kombat X" might be moved to a later date, likely sometime after the release of "Injustice 2."

As for the DLC itself, there have been several polls that have been launched by NetherRealm studios which gave fans the chance to vote for the characters they want to see in "Kombat Pack 3." Based on the polls, the most requested combatants for the next DLC includes characters such as Baraka, Noob Saibot, Sindel, and Fujian.
