"Mortal Kombat X" was first introduced to the public during the Electronic Entertainment Expo 2014. The new title is being developed by NetherRealm and will be published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. The game will work throough a non-linear storyline, and will maintain a 25-year gap from its predecessors.

Prior to its launching, creator Ed Boon thrilled and enticed MK followers about the new installment, tweeting hints on the return of old Kombatants and the coming of the new.

"Looks like one of the boots that were made for walkin' was Quan Chi's. #MKX," he tweeted.

This came to fruition when a trailer from its game developer was shared. Quan-chi was made darker and more sinister to fit the role of the game's major villain. Quan Chi will have three variations, as seen on the video: a Sorcerer, a Warlock, and a Summoner.  Each variation corresponds to a move. To attack opponents from different avenues, Quan Chi should be in Warlock mode. As a Sorcerer, Quan Chi can cast a notorious array of spells. On Summoner mode, Quan Chi can get help from the creatures of the underworld.

Other playable characters will come from a new lineup of Kombatants, and here is the rich list, according to Game Radar.

Cassie Cage, daughter of Johnny Cage and Sonya Blade, will resemble her parent's fighting styles — her mother's good firearm grip and her father's love for groin smacking. Next will be D'Vorah — a human and insect hybrid who kills Kombatants with wasps and larva.

New character Kotal Kahn, who is likely related to Shao Khan, is the Aztec eagle warrior who loves letting blood and cutting hearts. Another is the God of Thunder and Earthrealm peacekeeper, Raiden.

Ferra and Torr, the powerful duo of gigantic size and accurate stabbing, will be a single playable character. Goro, the four-armed Shokan warrior, although initially integrated in the pre-order version, will likely be there as well.

Other characters are MK's honorable warrior hero, Liu Kang and red-clad ninja Ermac. The list also includes Sub-Zero's reincarnation Noob Saibot, acid-vomiting reptile/human Reptile, razor-rimmed hat guy Kung Lao, Edenia princess Kitana, Kitana's fanged counterpart Mileena, and chubby drunkard Bo Rai Cho.

Characters from the previous games will come back, as older versions of themselves. This will explain the spawn of the next generation of Kombatants. Like Quan Chi, these characters are set to be played in variations, too.

And of course, the game will be rendered incomplete without resurrected yellow-clad ninja Scorpion and ninja assassin Sub-Zero, whose comeback was announced months prior.

In the New York Comic-Con this weekend, the release of a comic book with the same name was also announced. The "Mortal Kombat X" comic book written by Shawn Kittelsen will serve as a prequel to the upcoming game, sporting new and old characters alike.

NetherRealm's "Mortal Kombat X" is coming to the Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, and PC platforms on April 24, 2015.
