'Mortal Kombat X' news: 'Kombat Pack 2' DLC characters rumored to launch in tie-in web series

The four additional Kombatants that will come out with Kombat Pack 2 for Mortal Kombat XNetherRealm Studios

Just last month NetherRealm Studios revealed the four characters that will be included in the upcoming "Kombat Pack 2" DLC for "Mortal Kombat X." However, it is now suggested in a report from CrossMap that at least two of these characters may be introduced first in an accompanying live-action web series.

According to the report, the new series is rumored to be called "Mortal Kombat Generations" and will star Cassie Cage, Takeda, Bo Rai Cho and possibly Tri-Borg. The latter two are included in the "Kombat Pack 2" DLC, along with the guest characters Xenomorph of the "Alien" films and Leatherface of "Texas Chainsaw Massacre."

Tri-Borg is set to be a combination of Cyborg Smoke, Cyrax and Sektor all in one character. While the three are staples in the franchise, Tri-Borg itself is entirely new. It is hinted that the new live-action web series may reveal Tri-Borg's origin story and how the character fits into the "Mortal Kombat X" narrative.

Bo Rai Cho is no stranger to the franchise and has been a playable character in the past. However, his inclusion in "Mortal Kombat Generations" may give further context on his role in the game's main plot.

The web series is likely not to feature the Xenomorph or Leatherface, given that they are guest characters owned by different film studios. NetherRealm Studios may only have the rights to use the characters in the game but not to depict them in any other medium such as in the aforementioned web series.

It is also noted that the series will be considered the third season of "Mortal Kombat Legacy" by director Kevin Tancharoen. However, if this is true then the connection between the series and "Mortal Kombat X" gets blurry as it has never been directly confirmed they share the same universe and follow the exact same events.

"Mortal Kombat X: Kombat Pack 2" will launch early this year.
