A new beta coming to "Mortal Kombat X" will give fans a better look at the new online play being designed for the game.

According to the game's community manager Tyler Lansdown, the upcoming beta will feature the game's "improved online play." Lansdown said that the new online mode should give fans the feeling of playing offline, even though they are actually engaged in an online match.

The upcoming "Mortal Kombat X" beta will be utilizing a different kind of system that is somewhat similar to the kind used by other online fighting games, GameSpot reported.

The hope is that the improvements being implemented will hopefully do away with lags, thus creating a better experience for the players.

Players interested in trying out "Mortal Kombat X's" new online offering can head on over to the game's official website to sign up starting Jan. 19.

The only requirement for players to be able to participate in the upcoming "Mortal Kombat X" beta is that they should have at least an hour's worth of time playing the game online previously.

Not all players will likely be granted entry into the beta right away, although more participants should be added later on.

According to Game Rant, the upcoming "Mortal Kombat X" beta has only been confirmed for PlayStation 4 (PS4) and Xbox One, although there's still a chance that it will also be made available for personal computers (PCs).

Right now, only four characters are expected to be made available for the beta, with those being Jacqui Briggs, Johnny Cage, Scorpion, and Sub-Zero. More characters could still be added to the "Mortal Kombat X" beta as the testing progresses, although this has not been confirmed.

NetherRealm Studios, "Mortal Kombat X's" developer, has thus far not announced just how long the beta will run for.
