'Motive' season 2 episode 1 spoilers: "Every episode of Motive is a Rubik's Cube," says showrunner
Canadian hit TV series "Motive" will do no crime drama ever dared – reveal the culprit at the start. The series is back in ABC for another season of new crimes told in heart stopping episodes.
Fans will be shocked in the development in the first episode of the second season of "Motive". According to showrunner Dennis Heaton told TV Guide, "It's so much more compelling than having eight suspects. When things happen in life — whether it's something as tragic as a death or as trivial as a parking ticket — one of our most important questions is: 'Why did this happen?'" The concept, says Heaton, "pushes all of us to up our game in terms of how we approach mystery writing. Every episode of Motive is a Rubik's Cube."
ABC hit the spot when it imported the hit Canadian series. The second season will focus on why crimes happened, instead of asking who did it. This embodied the series' title and will make viewers ask what is the suspect's motive in committing the crime. This is a new and fresh perspective in storytelling crime.
Fans can expect big changes in the new season with the introduction of Sgt Mark Cross (Warren Christie), who just got out of a two-year human-trafficking case that made huge deadlines. "Cross creates good press so, as his reward, he's promoted to homicide. We soon find out that he and Det. Angie Flynn [Kristin Lehman] have a past she wishes would stay buried," Heaton also said. The effects will be detrimental on the department and on Angie's relationship with Det. Oscar Vega (Louis Ferreira).
"Cross intends to integrate himself into the cases and put his stamp on everything. For Angie and Vega — two seasoned professionals — that's very disconcerting," Heaton stated.
The TV show "Motive" will hit your living rooms on May 21, 10/9c.
