Motorola handsets have recently been receiving Android 5.1 Lollipop, the latest build of Google's newest operating system. The latest to don the update is the second-generation Moto E unit from Verizon. The carrier is rolling out the update over the air so a notification prompt should pop up soon.

The software will push the handset to 23.11.17 and will endow the one-year old Motorola-made device a number of features and improvements. With Android 5.1 Lollipop, the Moto E 2014 will get enhanced security in the form of Factory Reset Protection.

There will also be UI tweaks to enjoy, and the addition of Interruption settings makes things far easier and convenient for users. Furthermore, the notification volume control access is there, and Bluetooth and Wi-Fi settings now have shortcuts in the pull-down menu for quicker navigation.

Over the air updates do not happen in one fell swoop but it shouldn't take long before Verizon customers with the hit handset can upgrade to the much newer Lollipop, which also brings much-needed bug fixes brought about by the builds that came before it.

Those who are still twiddling their thumbs for the arrival of Android 5.1 Lollipop can go to the device's settings by selecting Settings -> About -> System Updates to check if the software is ready for their Verizon's Moto E (2nd Gen).

In other related news, the Moto Droid Turbo is also expected to get the Lollipop treatment this month. According to reports, Android 5.1 Lollipop is heading to the Verizon-exclusive handset in the middle of June.

Seven long months have passed since the update first made it to Nexus handsets, which means that countless Android devices now sport Lollipop. Even Android M, Google's next OS, is in the works and on the way. Unfortunately, the Motoroala device has been stuck with Android 4.4.2 KitKat. It initially seemed that all hope is lost for the Droid Turbo to make the jump but this will change in a couple of days.
