It started when a user announced that he received the Android 5.0.2 OS in his second generation Moto G.

Motorola surprised the tech industry when Moto G 2014 was the first smartphone to receive the Android 5.0 Lollipop OS last year. Now, users in the United States will receive the Android 5.0.2 version of the operating system.

The smartphone will be one of the devices to get the most current version of the Android operating system. The update can be downloaded Over-The-Air and has the software version 22.21.28.

The update is 39 MB in size. Moto G 2014 users will receive a notification informing them that the update is now available. Users can also check Settings –> About Phone –> System Update.  They can then connect to Wi-Fi network and download the update.

Below is the step-by-step procedure in the downloading the update:

Step 1: Download the ROM by XDA developers for the Moto G XT1063 model. (Remember that it works only on this particular model).

Step 2: Transfer the 22.21.28 firmware ZIP file to the internal storage of the handset and boot into recovery.

Step 3: In recovery, wipe the cache, data, system and dalvik cache.

Step 4: Go to the main recovery menu and tap on "Install zip from SD card."

Step 5: Choose the downloaded ZIP file and flash it to install the firmware on the Moto G 2014.

Step 6: Reboot the device.

The update brings a myriad of solutions and improvements to the handsets, although the changelog has not been released yet. Thus, the features added or improved in the handset are still unknown. The Android 5.0.2 was first spotted in the original Nexus 7 released in 2012. However, the update has been in the backburner since the bugs and issues found in the update took centerstage.

A leak from someone in Motorola allegedly announced in its website saying that the update will be completely bug free. This is quite hard to believe since the current Android 5.0 Lollipop OS is plagued with bugs and issues.
