Moto G 2015 review: Design, features, specs roundup

Motorola

Motorola recently unveiled its third-generation Moto G along with a new Moto X. While the Moto X was the focus for the high-end premium smartphone market, users were also drawn in by the new Moto G, Motorola's take on a better, budget-friendly smartphone. The Moto G series has been so well-received that it has been branded as the company's most successful smartphone ever and others think that the Moto G is "Motorola's real flagship."

Design and display

The new Moto G's design is leagues better than the original one. Although still retaining the form factor, the 3rd-gen handset has been made more ergonomic and looks much sleeker like the Moto X and the previous Nexus 6. In terms of build, the design quality is much better than its predecessor, and the metal-like plastic and ribbed curved back fits snugly on the user's palm and will not easily slip.

Display-wise, the recently-launched Moto G has a 5.0-inch 720p HD display, which makes it clearer than other budget-sized smartphones.

Specs and features

The same as with other handsets in the budget category, the Moto G is powered by a mid-range Snapdragon 410 processor, partnered with either a 1 GB RAM for the 8 GB storage version or a 2 GB RAM for the 16 GB storage variant. Both storage versions are expandable via microSD.

This year's Moto G also comes with Android Lollipop 5.1.1 right out of the box, and has 4G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, and GPS connectivity.

Perhaps one of the most surprising feature of the new Moto G is that the handset is waterproofed, which is commonly found only in high-end smartphones. The 3rd-gen Moto G has an IP67 standard feature, which means that the device can be submerged into 1 m deep of water for up to 30 minutes without damage.
