The Android 5.0 Lollipop OS update is being pushed to Moto G and Moto X (2014) Pure Edition.

Moto G and X (2014) Pure Edition are among the first devices to receive the latest Android 5.0 Lollipop OS outside the Nexus and Google Play Edition family. Motorola officially confirmed via its blog that it will start rolling out the OS to the aforementioned devices.

Not so long ago, Moto X (2014) users that are members of the Motorola Feedback Network were invited to join the Moto X 2014 Android 5.0 soak tests. This allows the manufacturer to comb the bugs and issues out of the OS before rolling it out to the general public.

Also, the recently released Moto G reportedly gets the Android 5.0 Lollipop OS. However, there is no word yet pertaining to the other Motorola devices.

The update will be rolled out in stages. Thus, some devices may receive the OS update earlier than the others. Users can also check their device manually by going to the Settings > About phone > Software updates > Check now.

Motorola partnered with Google in making the latest Nexus 6 so it's possible that the manufacturer was given special treatment and was among the first Android OEM manufacturers to roll out the latest Android mobile software to their products.

This is just the start.  Since the Moto X 2014 Pure Edition and Moto G already received the update, it will not take long for other Motorola devices to follow. Moreover, Motorola is known for rolling out the latest Android OS fast and early.

According to Motorola's blog post, the Android 5.0 Lollipop OS update will bring the new user interface, Material Design. The operating system also comes with improved lock screen notifications, Downtime and Interruption settings, Guest mode and multi-user support, redesigned flashlight, etc. The new Android OS will also include a new battery saver mode that prolongs the battery life of the devices.
