The Moto X 2016 has been confirmed to come with a fingerprint sensor once launched sometime this 2016.

Following a statement reported by Tech Sina from Lenovo executive Chen Xudong, the fourth generation of the Moto X, which will be launched this year will indeed be equipped with a fingerprint scanner. In fact, Xudong said that all smartphones to be released by Lenovo will be integrated with this feature starting this year.

It is still unclear what kind of technology Motorola will be using for fingerprint scanners, but given Lenovo's good relationship with Qualcomm, it's likely that the ultrasonic SenseID by the tech manufacturer could be a possible option.

The fourth generation of Moto X is also expected to sport a 5-inch screen or possibly bigger as Xudong has also stated that all Motorola and Lenovo handsets will be equipped with displays no smaller than 5 inches in size. Also given that the handset will be equipped with fingerprint scanners, it's likely that the Moto X 2016 will launch with Android 6.0 Marshmallow coming out of the box.

In an statement given to Techno Buffalo, Motorola clarified that Xudong was referring only to devices that would be specific to the China market, so this could potentially shoot down rumours about fingerprint scanners and display specs for the upcoming Moto X.

Other early rumours as posted by CNBeta point to the upcoming Motorola flagship to sport a metal unibody design, which steers away from the general direction Lenovo has had in terms of hardware design. Motorola has been known for its colourful and customisable plastic casings.

In other related news, Xudong has also announced that Google play services would be made available in China this year. After the government of China banned Google on Chinese mainframes, this could possibly the start of the lifting of censorships in the country.
