The Moto X 2016 has been rebranded and split into two devices. According to a report from Venture Beat, the phone has been renamed as the Moto Z Style and the Moto Z Play, with the former being the more luxurious and more expensive model. Both are expected to launch this coming June 9.

According to the report, Lenovo, which now owns Motorola and has been designing their latest flagship phones, will present the two devices during the Lenovo Tech World Event in San Francisco on the said date. It is also noted that other flagship devices from Lenovo and Motorola, such as smart phones and laptops, will also be presented during the event.

It is also noted that Motorola's phone is not the only one to be rebranded this year. It is further stated that Sony has recently rebranded their Xperia Z as the Xperia X. Whether the name changes were a coincidence or if one was caused by the other to avoid consumer confusion is still unknown at the time being.

Just like the original Moto X lineup the phones will be compatible with Motorola's mods which will allow consumers to buy and swap the phone's back casing. Many of these come with new features such as a projector and even an external camera with its own built-in specs and capabilities.

Know Your Mobile also reports that there will be a few key differences between the two phones in regards to their builds and capabilities. The Moto Z Style will have a 13MP camera, a 5.5-inch QHD AMOLED display screen, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor and 3GB or 4GB of RAM.

The Moto Z Play will have an improved 16MP camera but will only rely on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 and its RAM options are between 2GB and 3GB. It will feature a 1080p 5.5-inch AMOLED display and will have a larger battery than the Moto Z Style.
