When Lenovo acquired Motorola Mobility, the tech maker confirmed that it will continue with the Moto lineups. The Moto X series seems to be one of the said lineups, as rumors of the 2016 edition suggest the new iteration getting certified recently.

According to PlayfulDroid, reports out of China mentioned a new listing for a still-unnamed Moto device making it to a CCC certification. Tagged with serial model number XT1662, the smartphone is expected to be the 2016 edition of the Moto X.

While Lenovo has yet to provide confirmed details, the specs sheet listed for the upcoming device has already been seen previously on a benchmark site, and seems to indicate that the new Moto X will step down from being a flagship series to more of an above-average iteration.

The supposed leaked specs listed the device as having a 4.6-inch display with full HD resolution. Under the hood, the new iteration features an MT6755 SoC paired with 3GB of RAM, 32GB internal storage, and Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box. In addition, the new iteration sports a 16MP main shooter and an 8MP selfie camera.

However, not all industry followers believe that the leaked device is the Moto X 2016. According to PocketNow, perennial leaker HelloMotoHK mentions that the 4.6-inch device is a new lineup from Lenovo, dubbed as the Moto M. The new Moto M will reportedly be a mid-range lineup for the Moto by Lenovo series, as an iteration in between the entry-level Moto G and the flagship Moto X lineups. Should this prove true, then Lenovo will have added two new lineups – the Moto M and Moto Z – to the current series it inherited from the old Moto iterations, namely the Moto E and Moto G series.
