Lenovo has already confirmed that the Moto X lineup will continue, although it remains to be seen when fans can expect the 2016 edition.

According to GSM Arena, a new Moto variant has been spotted on a Chinese certification website. The new Moto iteration, with coded serial XT1662, is said to be the new 2016 Moto X. Reportedly, the new Moto X will come out with a 4.6-inch display with 1080p resolution, a MediaTek Helio P10 chipset paired with 3GB of RAM, and 16MP/8MP cameras. It is also expected to come out with at least Android Marshmallow 6.0.1. However, there are some confusion on this specs list, since there are rumors that Lenovo is intending to debut another Moto lineup, the Moto M.

Meanwhile, seeing as the previous Moto X lineups are flagship series, Yibada maintains that the 2016 edition will also come out with top-tier specs, similar to another Moto flagship, the Moto Z. According to the industry follower, while the 2016 Moto X will also have a modular design like the Moto Z lineup, Lenovo will feature some new and novel details on the new Moto X, like a improved power management feature that will likely add more battery usage to the flagship.

It remains to be seen if the 2016 Moto X will be another flagship, or an above-average mid-ranger. Some fans believe that the new Moto X will be the latter, given that Lenovo has already released a new flagship lineup in the Moto Z. For this, the 2016 Moto X is expected to come out with mid-range specs, like a Snapdragon 625 chipset with 3GB of RAM, and at least 32GB of onboard storage. Should this be the case, then the new Moto X will be launched similar to another Moto Z addition, the step-down Moto Z Play.
