Lenovo has already mentioned that it will continue the Moto X flagship when the company acquired Motorola Mobility. However, the expected 2016 edition of the original Moto flagship may be relegated to a release next year.

According to a supposed leaked schedule, Lenovo is already preparing its 2017 lineup for a staggered release all throughout next year. The supposed list includes the expected installments including the second-gen Moto flagship, as well as the refresh editions of the Moto G and Moto E.

Interestingly, one of the supposed handsets listed on the roadmap is the Moto X. Should this prove true, it is likely that the new iteration is the expected 2016 follow-up to the Moto X 2nd-gen.

Meanwhile, the purported leaked schedule also lists the developers for the project. Interestingly, the Moto Z will be handled by Motorola, while the Moto X and the Moto M follow-up will be created by Lenovo.

Although Lenovo has yet to comment on the rumor, previous speculations have already mentioned that a Moto X is already in the works. Supposedly, the new follow-up will be an all-metal handset, and may be similar in design to the current-gen Moto Z.

There are speculations that since Lenovo added a new flagship lineup to the Moto series — the Moto Z, the Moto X may be relegated to an above-average iteration. However, Lenovo may also follow a two-flagship lineup much like Samsung's Galaxy S and Galaxy Note. This is plausible, since it is said that Lenovo will ditch its Lenovo Mobile division, realigning its lineup to focus on the Moto brand.

As to how different the 2017 Moto X will be from its predecessors, it is expected that the new iteration will have the same above-average specs like a full HD display, a fingerprint scanner, and a protruding camera design like the Moto Z.
