Speculations suggest that Motorola may be already on track to release a new edition of its Moto X lineup, as an alleged image of the fourth gen Moto X, to be released next year, appeared online.

According to Tech Radar, the leak originated from Chinese website cnBeta. The leaked image apparently showed the back of the upcoming Moto X fourth gen. However, the industry follower advised that the image itself was unconfirmed, so it was hard to tell if the unit in the photo really was the next Moto X.

Droid Life also picked up the alleged image, saying that considering Motorola's signature designs and features in the past, referring to the device in the image as a Moto X is quite a stretch.

The industry follower added that the device in question will not fit Motorola's current mold. For example, the apparent metal body that the unit has will not be compatible with Moto Maker, which is one of the main selling points of Moto flagships. In addition, previous Moto iterations all have front-grille speakers on them, and the front speakers are considered a Moto signature feature.

Techno Buffalo mentioned that the image itself may have shown an unfinished, bare-chassis Moto X, and this was why the image showed an all-metal build.

However, the industry follower also added that should the image prove to be a complete prototype model, then Motorola has decided to deviate completely from its previous iterations. Ditching the polycarbonate, customizable design with a unibody frame, the alleged Moto X fourth gen can be considered the first Motorola all-metal device.

In addition, if the image truly showed a finished Moto X 2016 edition, then Motorola also drastically changed its camera module. The image showed that the primary camera sticks out from the back panel, and the lens module itself seemed to be bigger than what Motorola featured on its past flagships.
