Moto Z's latest add-on turns smartphone into Polaroid instant camera

Motorola
The Polaroid Insta-Share Printer is the latest Moto Mod.

The old and the new combine with the new Moto Mod that converts users' smartphones into a Polaroid instant camera, allowing users to instantly print pictures from their smartphones.

The nifty add-on is called the Polaroid Insta-Share Printer Moto Mod. It is a pocket-sized photo printer that connects to the back of Motorola's Moto Z line of smartphones.

The printer does not augment the rear camera of the phone as other mods do, which is fine since the Moto Z sports a pretty decent dual rear camera system. Instead, the Polaroid Insta-Share Printer Moto Mod has a cut-out on the top portion to allow the phone's camera to poke through.

To use the printer, users need to simply snap the add-on to the back of the phone using the built-in magnet. The connection between the phone and the printer will allow the transfer of both data and power

With this mod, users will be able to print 2x3 inch photos from either the phone's camera roll or directly from social media sites like Facebook or Instagram. Users may also opt to add filters, borders, or text onto the photo before printing it. After printing the adhesive back of the photo paper can be peeled away to turn it into a sticker.

Similar to other instant cameras, the printer uses Polaroid's ZINK paper, which has technologies that make it smudge-proof and water resistant. The photo paper can be purchased at around $14 per pack of 30 prints.

While the paper is largely affordable, many buyers may find the printer add-on to be quite expensive. The mod costs $200, which is a lot more expensive than other standalone instant cameras. Polaroid's own OneStep2, the successor of the classic OneStep instant camera, costs only $99.

However, for those people who are really sold into the Moto Z line of smartphones, this add-on will be a great addition to its array of useful mods.
