2015 turned out to be a great year for the movie industry with many successful films making a mark in box office history. Likewise, 2016 is expected to be a big year, especially for superheroes and supervillains alike. With a lot to prove because of the franchises that are behind them, the following movies should be interesting and innately "big."

"Captain America: Civil War" will be shown in cinemas on May 6, 2016. The movie is a sequel to the first two "Captain America" movies and also to "Avengers: Age of Ultron". The movie will start from where the "Age of Ultron" ended. The collateral damage from the recent Avengers incident puts pressure on authorities to have some means of establishing accountability when and where the Avengers are called upon. The status quo results to the division in the Avengers, one team is led by Steve Rogers, the other by Tony Stark.

"X-Men: Apocalypse" is another big movie to watch out for in 2016. Hitting the silver screens on May 27, 2016, the movie will see a huge battle between the X-Men and one of the first and most powerful mutants of all time – Apocalypse. The film's timeline will go back to 1983 so the younger cast members will have the leading roles, but original characters will also have an appearance. This movie is set to amaze "X-Men" audiences with a storyline that digs deep into the history of mutants and the X-Men.

"Star Trek 3: Into Darkness" is also coming in July 2016. There has been a lot of talk about the movie but what makes it worth the wait is its story which will finally take place in the final frontier of space. The previous "Star Trek" movies were all close to home. This time Captain Kirk will go farther into space and discover new worlds and civilizations and get into trouble and sticky situations. The film is directed by Justin Lin ("Fast & Furious") so that should give fans some clue what the film would look and feel like.
