Movies this week: Films to premiere in theaters on Oct. 17

Last Friday, Oct. 10, moviegoers welcomed to the big screen "The Judge" (Robert Downey, Jr., Robert Duvall), "Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day" (Steve Carrell, Jennifer Garner, Ed Oxenbould), and "Dracula Untold" (Luke Evans, Sarah Gadon, Dominic Cooper), along with "Addicted" and "Kill the Messenger." This Friday, Oct. 17, another batch of exciting movies will roll out in theaters.

Fury (2014). This wartime drama set in April 1945 focuses on U.S. Army Staff Sergeant "Wardaddy" as he commandeers a tank with his platoon of five men, and crosses enemy lines to strike against the Nazis.

The film stars Brad Pitt (Don "Wardaddy" Collier), Shia LaBeouf (Boyd Swan), and Logan Lerman (Norman Ellison), along with Michael Peña, Jon Bernthal, Jason Isaacs, and Scott Eastwood.

The Book of Life (2014). This computer-animated film is about a young man who, after winning the affections of his love, Maria, gets bitten by a snake (all a spirit's doing). Armed with nothing more than two swords, a guitar, and his common sense, he must venture through three worlds in the afterlife in order to get back to Maria and the human world.

The main characters in this animated film were voiced by Diego Luna (protagonist Manolo Sanchez), Zoe Saldana (Maria, Manolo's love interest), and Channing Tatum (Joaquin, Manolo's rival).

The Best of Me. For those who like romance, this film is about a kind of love that never really goes away. High school sweethearts Dawson Cole and Amanda Collier meet again unexpectedly after 20 years. They can't help but renew the relationship they once had, but things are as complicated in the present as they were in the past. Amanda is now a married woman and has a child.  Nevertheless, love has a way of staying, no matter what.

The film stars James Marsden as Dawson Cole, Michelle Monagham as Amanda Collier, Luke Bracey as young Dawson, and Liana Liberato as young Amanda.
