This week spells trouble for "Mr. Robot" season 3 as episode 4 rolls out with broken ties.

"Elliot is dead to me, our partnership is over," opens Tyrell Wellick, played by Swedish actor Martin Wallström, in the promo for "eps3.3_m3tadatapar2."

Tyrell does not want anything to do with Elliot Alderson (Rami Malek) anymore, thinking the friend he knew is gone. Looks like he's still reeling from the season 2 finale when Elliot's alter ego Mr. Robot (Christian Slater) asked him to shoot Elliot for refusing to be a part of the Dark Army.

Meanwhile, Elliot's sister Darlene (Carly Chaikin) is trying to lead her brother to a different path, but it's not working. The previous episode confirmed what has been hinted earlier in season 3 — Darlene is now the confidential human source of Dominique DiPierro (Grace Gummer) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. She told them Elliot's involvement in the Five/Nine Hack that put the U.S. economy in tatters back in season 1, and now they are watching everything he does.

Based on "Mr. Robot" writer and producer Kor Adana's interview with The Hollywood Reporter, however, it looks like this is not exactly a betrayal on Darlene's part. He likened Darlene's move to what Angela Moss (Portia Doubleday) has been doing.

For those who don't know yet, it has been recently confirmed that she is working with Mr. Robot and the Dark Army, unbeknownst to Elliot. Adana said that Darlene truly believes it is what's best for both of them.

"You have two characters who are the closest to Elliot, yet they're playing him in different ways. They also believe wholeheartedly that this is the best way to protect him and everyone else," Adana added.

Judging from the promo, Darlene is not getting through to her brother who says, "There's something inside of me that can't let go of what we started."

Find out how this web of lies and betrayal unravels as "Mr. Robot" airs Wednesdays, 10 p.m. EDT on USA Network.
