Actor Craig Robinson will get out of his comfort zone as a comedian to join the growing cast of "Mr. Robot" season 2.

Variety exclusively reported that "The Office" star landed a recurring role in the critically acclaimed psychological drama thriller for its sophomore season.

Robinson is slated to portray the role of Ray, a New York local who will get out of his way to offer help to Elliot (Rami Malek) during a difficult time in his life.

The comedian is not the only addition to the cast in "Mr. Robot" season 2. In late January, Variety also reported that "The Newsroom" and "American Horror Story" star Grace Gummer will be a series regular for season 2 as she portrays the role of a young FBI field agent named Dominique "Dom" DiPierro. She will utilize her investigative skills to find out more about the hackers of the mysterious fsociety who managed to infiltrate Evil Corp.

The show just promoted Stephanie Corneliussen and Michael Cristofer as series regulars for season 2. Corneliussen portrays the role of the wife of Evil Corp's ruthless Senior Vice President of Technology Tyrell Wellick (Martin Wallström), while Cristofer plays the role or Evil Corp's CEO Phillip Price.

Reports also revealed that rapper Joey Bada$$ will be guest-starring in the series as he portrays the role of Elliot's close friend and neighbor Leon, while newcomer Chris Conroy will appear in the series as Derek, the new man in Joanna's life.

Series creator Sam Esmail revealed during the Television Critics Association press tour earlier this year that "Mr. Robot" season 2 will look deeper into Elliot's backstory.

"And the timeline will get a little clearer. Not a hundred percent clearer, but a little clearer," the "Mr. Robot" creator said.

Filming for "Mr. Robot" season 2 began in New York City on Monday, and the new season will premiere on USA Network in summer 2016.
