"Mr. Robot" season 1 ended with a highly suspenseful revelation, showing the audience that the titular character was not in fact Elliot's (Rami Malek) father but was Elliot himself.

This revelation will not only affect fsociety moving forward but, according to showrunner Sam Esmail, will also be one of the key plot points in season 2.

Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Esmail stated that there will be time spent on Elliot dealing with the ramifications of his discovery. His dual personality and fluctuating memory have affected the major series of events in season 1 and are expected to do so even more in season 2.

The complicated timeline, however, will be cleared up a little bit, Esmail stated, ensuring that the audience will be able to piece the true story little by little. Esmail also explained that the story moving forward will be about Elliot dealing with the lies and delusion that he himself created.

"There will be a lot more backstory that will be shown, the timeline will get a little clearer -- not 100 percent clear, because where's the fun in that? But a little clearer," he stated. "It really is about Elliott trying to reconcile what this means in seeing Mr. Robot."

Esmail also confirmed that there is a very high chance that the second season will also come with its own big twist. While season 1 dealt with big twists such as Elliot discovering who his sister was and that he was in fact Mr. Robot all along, the show will still shock audiences with something just as controversial come season 2.

One thing that is also confirmed in the report is that Christian Slater, who portrayed Mr. Robot aka Elliot's father, will still be on the show. According to Esmail, the revelation of Elliot's dual personality is just the first arc and that there is still room to play with Slater's portrayal as Elliot's projection of who Mr. Robot is.
