The biggest shock of "Mr. Robot" season 1 was when Elliot realized that the titular Mr. Robot was not his father but was really just a part of Elliot's imagination.

Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, show runner Sam Esmail revealed that this is just the beginning and that season 2 will continue delving into Elliot's history.

"There will be a lot more backstory that will be shown, the timeline will get a little clearer -- not 100 percent clear, because where's the fun in that?" Esmail explained. "The series is filling in the blanks of the past and the present of this character. It's about a guy who becomes aware of this delusion he's been having."

When asked if there will be any big plot twists akin to the reveal in season 1, Esmail stated that there will be and that the whole revelation of Esmail's identity as Mr. Robot was just the first arc of what is conceived as a three-arc series.

Given that the first season serves as a first act of a larger story, it was also confirmed that Christian Slater, who portrayed Elliot's father and also Elliot's perceived version of Mr. Robot, will return despite it being clear that Slater's character is not Mr. Robot. 

Fans speculate that this indicates Elliot will still see visions of his father speaking to him or even taunting him, indicating that Elliot is still undergoing occasions of dual-personality disorder and at times struggles to distinguish reality from fantasy.

Esmail also teased that the vision Elliot saw of his family at Time's Square will be revealed as well as the reason why Elliot's sister, Darlene (Carly Chaikin), was not included in that vision.

One tidbit that Esmail did not want to share about was that of Tyrell Wellick's (Martin Wallstrom) fate. The murderous character was left in an ambiguous cliffhanger that did not reveal if he did or did not die as expected.

"Mr. Robot" season 2 is expected to premiere this Summer.
