Leon Leon (Joey Bada$$) may play a pivotal role when USA's "Mr. Robot" returns for its third season.

According to a report by Game and Guide, clues can be found in the recently released "Red Wheelbarrow" Mr. Robot tie-in book, which gives insight into Elliot's (Rami Malek) time in prison and that of his cellmate Leon's background.

In the book, Leon was implied to be hiding something from his friend Elliot. It seemed like the former was deliberately placed behind bars so that he could spy on Elliot.

A report by Yahoo TV cited Elliot's observation that Leon was being visited by a Chinese-looking woman, who could be Whiterose's agent or worse, Whiterose herself. It was implied that Leon could be directly connected with the Dark Army, especially given the close proximity of his release date to that of Elliot's.

Given that Mr. Robot isn't a typical series, it is also possible that the showrunners are toying with the audience and misleading them into doubting Leon's loyalty. This could prove to be true since Esmail shared that despite the tie-in, "understanding everything will never probably happen."

While showrunner Sam Esmail has already teased that they might inject some Trump into the season, a glimpse of a part of season 3's script has confirmed it. The dialogue was between Krista (Gloria Reuben) and Elliot, and the former asked the latter what was it about society that disappointed him so much.

Elliot answers: "Oh, that's easy. Donald Trump was just elected as president."

The show — which earned lead star Rami Malek his first Emmy win for Best Actor in a Drama Series at the 68th Primetime Emmy Awards — also picked up a Golden Globe Award early this year for Best Television Drama, Movie Pilot reported.

While details of its official release date is yet to be released, "Mr. Robot" season 3 is expected to return sometime in June or July next year.
