It was an eventful season 2 finale for "Mr. Robot," and the intensity promises to carry over to the following season.

According to writer Sam Esmail, the series is progressing the way they intended it to, with the first season highlighting Elliot's (Rami Malek) self-awareness. When this was achieved, they went ahead and mounted a revolution in the second season.

The third season will deal with disintegration as Elliot grows further apart from Mr. Robot (Christian Slater) amid the nation's recession. According to Esmail, the third season will show the aftermath of the season finale where it will start with the attempted bombing of the E Corp building, which Elliot tried to thwart, and eventually got shot for.

Esmail explained that the show may go deeper into the weird bond that Elliot shares with Tyrell (Martin Wallström), who expressed an uncanny level of concern when the former was shot.

"Tyrell loves Elliot. The interesting thing about Tyrell and Elliot is that they have this bond, this connection. That's what we set up in that first scene, actually the first time they met in the pilot. They have this relationship where they connect on this much deeper level. Tyrell's set up as this villain but they're not in this antagonistic back and forth. They actually have this weird deep bond," he said.

Another person that shares a deep connection with Elliot — Angela (Portia Doubleday) — could also be a highlight this season and viewers may finally learn of her true allegiance. 

"As we move forward to the next season, it'll be interesting to play that dynamic. Is she really with them or is she not? It's just something with Angela's journey, we can always keep people off balance in terms of what directions she's actually going in," he said.

Esmail also said that viewers should expect some events of the series to be inspired by actual events that have been happening in real life.

"The sentiment and the outrage and the support of Donald Trump; the groundswell by which he rose to become the Republican nominee, that sort of atmosphere is going to be used in the Mr. Robot universe and amplified by this great economic collapse which is happening like a slow car accident. What you're seeing is the events that stoked those (Trump-like) sentiments.There will be a lot of overlap," he said.
