Nintendo is celebrating the 20th anniversary of "Pokémon,' one of the most popular franchises worldwide. As part of its year-long festivities, Nintendo has partnered with The Pokémon Company for a series of celebrations, starting with a Mythical Pokémon Distribution event. An additional surprise for hardcore fans is that the first Mythical Pokémon that will be included in the event is Mew.

According to the events calendar posted on Serebii, players for the "Pokémon X" or "Pokémon Y" and their ""Omega Ruby" and "Alpha Sapphire" versions for North America can get a level 100 Mew from Feb. 1 to 24 via serial codes. Gamers will need to visit a GameStop shop and get a card with the mystery code, which can then be entered into the Mystery Code menu in the game.

The same mechanics will also be available for players in Europe. However, in some locations such as GameStop UK, players can get the serial codes until Feb. 28.

Meanwhile in Japan, the Mew distribution event will start from Feb. 27 and ends on March 31, and the Mythical Pokémon at level 5 will be available as a virtual console release. In other regions, a level 100 Mew can be gained via serial codes from EB Games from Feb. 1 to 24.

According to an announcement on the Pokémon 20th anniversary website, Mew will be the first on the list of Mythical Pokémon that will be distributed to players on a per-month basis. Aside from Mew, players will also be able to get Celebi in March, Jirachi in April, Darkrai in May, Manaphy in June, Shaymin in July, and Arceus in August. For the remaining months, players will get a chance to capture Victini in September, Keldeo in October, Genesect in November, and finally, Meloetta in December.

Meanwhile, aside from Mew being available starting next month, the mythical Pokémon will also be showcased via the release of "Pokémon TCG: Mythical Pokémon Collection" on Feb. 22.
