Wagner Moura's Pablo Escobar will meet his demise in "Narcos" season 2.Netflix

Netflix has released the first official teaser promo for the upcoming second season of "Narcos," the hit crime-drama based on the real life of drug kingpin Pablo Escobar, here played by Wagner Moura. The teaser promo is less than a minute long but it does reveal several key details about season 2, including its release date.

The trailer begins with a shot of Moura's Escobar stepping closer to the camera before it cuts to a Dec. 1, 1949 date. As stated in a report from Ecumenical News, this is the date of birth of Pablo Escobar. A few seconds into the trailer and it then reveals a Dec. 2, 1993 date, which is when Escobar died following a pursuit by the FBI and local police.

At the tail-end of the trailer the dates shift to Sept. 2, 2016, which then cuts to a close-up of Escobar facing the camera. This final date indicates that the second season will premiere on Netflix on Sept. 2, keeping it right on track as the first season also premiered in September.

With the date of his death also included in the promo it is widely speculated that season 2 will showcase how Escobar died. In the real-world events he suffered several gunshot wounds to the leg, torso and a fatal shot through the ear, although it is undetermined if this was from suicide or if someone had executed him. Many accept it as suicide.

It is likely this will play out in "Narcos" season 2. As for its premiere, the report states it is likely the series will pick from the La Catedral prison where he ended up in at the end of season 1. Escobar managed to continue his drug empire even behind bars, and when he did escape it led to a violent shootout and hostage-taking incident.

"Narcos" season 2 is set to premiere on Netflix, with all episodes launched simultaneously, on Sept. 2.
