Pablo Escobar (Wagner Moura) may be dead and gone, but the drug trade continues on screen after Netflix renewed "Narcos" for its third and fourth seasons.

The plot for season 3 was hinted in the second season finale when DEA agent Javier Pena (Pedro Pascal) declared that the fight to curb the illegal cocaine trade will be shifted to another Columbian gang known as the Cali Cartel.

Based on the facts gathered by GQ Australia, the Cali Cartel had been formed by the Rodríguez Orejuela brothers, named Gilberto and Miguel, and José Santacruz Londoño in Cali, Colombia back in 1977. They used to be associated with Escobar's Medellin Cartel until they decided to sever their ties with the wealthiest drug dealer in Colombia during the late 1980s.

But unlike Escobar's brutal style of operation where they threaten or hurt people, the Cali Cartel's leaders opted to use bribery to keep their operation smooth sailing.

There are also reports saying that while Escobar's cartel tends to rebel against the government, the head of the Cali Cartel managed to keep their influence in politics.

The Cali Cartel arc of "Narcos" will possibly see the return of actor Damian Alcazar to portray the role of Gilberto Rodríguez Orejuela. Alberto Ammann is also expected to reprise his role as Helmer "Pacho" Herrera, another high-ranking member of the Cali Cartel.

The upcoming season will also introduce new cast members to portray the role of the other high profile members of the Colombian drug organization.

Meanwhile, executive producer Eric Newman teased that the fourth season of "Narcos" might possibly feature the drug operations in Mexico after they featured all the stories left in Colombia. "If somebody wants another season of the show, we would sit down and draw from the pretty massive amount of real estate and research that we've done and do something kind of cool," the executive producer told Entertainment Weekly.

Netflix is expected to release the third season of "Narcos" in 2017.
