The first two runs of the series focused on the rise and fall of the drug empire of notorious Pablo Escobar (Wagner Moura) in the Colombian city of Medellin, while the third installment shifted its focus to the Cali Cartel. Now, many are wondering what they can expect from "Narcos" season 4.

As seen from the season three's finale episode, the Cali Cartel might not be featured in the next run — with tons of reports claiming that the show will be set in Mexico. "Narcos" season 4 will likely center on the Juarez Cartel and Amado Carrillo Fuentes (José María Yazpik), follow the upsurge of the cocaine trade in Colombia, and reveal the real-life stories of druglords.

Last season, Juarez's head Fuentes and Cali's Pacho Herrera (Alberto Ammann) had a meeting, and the show ended with a scene featuring Javier Peña (Pedro Pascal) and Steve Murphy (Boyd Holbrook) staring at a portrait of Kiki Camarena, a DEA agent who was killed in Mexico in 1985. This led to the speculation that the next installment will be filmed in a new location, leaving Colombia entirely.

Speaking in an interview with Heavy (via Express), Pêpê Rapazote — who starred as Chepe Santacruz Londoño in the third season — confirmed that the season 4 would "focus on the early days of Mexican cartels, Juarez." He also suggested that the series' producers may look back in time and research at the early days of the Mexican cartels.

Though it sounds exciting for fans, it is worth noting that there are still no confirmations whether "Narcos" season 4 will happen. Rapazote's comments apparently came out following the killing of the show location scout, Carlos Muñoz Portal, emerged. The body of the 37-year-old crew was found with gunshot wounds in an area close to Mexico City.

The incident happened as Portal was looking for filming locations in the rural area for the fourth installment. Netflix released a statement saying, "We are aware of the passing of Carlos Muñoz Portal, a well-respected location scout, and send our condolences to his family."

The facts regarding his death remain unknown, and authorities are continuing to investigate. Rumor has it that the possible production of "Narcos" season 4 could eventually move back to Colombia due to the recent incident. Netflix is yet to announce whether they will renew the show.
