CyberConnect2 will no longer be developing fighting games set in the "Naruto" franchise, which makes "Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 4" their last game in the series. As a means of bidding farewell the last DLC, "Road to Boruto," will include a campaign and characters from the "Boruto: Naruto the Movie" film.

This means the new characters will have their own move sets and abilities instead of being alternate costumes for the current roster of characters. As shown in the official teaser trailer for the DLC it will be adding Hokage Naruto, an adult Sasuke, Mitsuki, Sarada, and Naruto's son, Boruto to the game.

Boruto is shown most prominently, given that the DLC centers around his character. It is speculated that the additional campaign will focus on the events told in the animated film in which Boruto and Naruto must come to an agreement to help each other and take down a common enemy, forging the bond between father and son.

Fans will note that this is a fitting end, given that the game's campaign not only covers the ending of the anime and manga, but with the DLC, it will also cover the epilog in which Naruto is older and now has a son.

The game is going to be released in North America solely as a digital download DLC, but in Japan, it will be available both physically and digitally. A special version of the "Road to Boruto" portion is going to launch in Japan as well, and it will be a stand-alone game, allowing players to enjoy it even if they do not own the main game.

Japan is also going to see a special limited edition in which the game's soundtrack is included. All of these editions will launch in Japan on Feb. 2, 2017. North America and Europe won't be getting the "Road to Boruto" DLC until Feb. 3, 2017.
