NBA 2015 draft news, rumors: Lakers keeping No. 2 pick for now

Wikipedia

The Los Angeles Lakers will be selecting second in the coming NBA Draft and until that day, it will remain the same.

This was addressed by general manager Mitch Kupchak after earlier reports surface that the Lakers were not too keen on picking second. And as some would guess, trade rumors swirled for teams who could be interested in getting the second pick.

However, Kupchak shot down those rumors as fast they came up. The Lakers will pick as planned and it could be Okafor or Towns, depending on who the Minnesota Timberwolves select.

But it seems that Kupachak has not completely closed the door. If ever a trade would happen, it would come probably by draft night and it would involve teams who would want to move up the drafting.

He cites the value of their pick, a high price to pay for any team who would want to move up. There could be of course some players involved but seeing that the Lakers are eyeing mostly the big name free agents, it could be a combination of changing draft places and money considerations.

Okafor is the most likely player the Lakers would land with if the no. 2 pick is still in their grasps. Okafor has bared his preference to play for the Lakers but all that be short-lived if a team would be able to offer a tempting deal that would entice the Lakers to trade away their pick. The same scenario exists should the Lakers select Towns.

The thought of seeing the Lakers trade away their chance in the coming NBA 2015 Draft would be foolish. With the no. 2 pick, the Lakers are in a prime position to get hold of fresh talents where they could eventually choose to keep them or trade them away for more seasoned players.
