NBA 2015 news: Thibodeau to sit out 2016 season?

There were a lot of teams showing interest in Thibodeau as rumors flew that the bench tactician would be given the pink slip soon. The Orlando Magic and the New Orleans Pelicans proved to be worthy destinations but many may have known by now that both teams have already hired their respective coaches for next season.

The Orlando Magic hired Scott Skiles to be their next head coach while the Pelicans opted to go with Alvin Gentry. With both teams filling up their coaching vacancies, the only team left without a head coach are the Denver Nuggets.

And from the looks of it, Thibodeau may not be interested in hooking up with the Nuggets, seeing that the team is in a bit of turmoil as changes are set to be made in personnel.

With that said, Thibodeau could take a break from it all and sit out the coming season. Seeing Thibodeau take on the Nuggets coaching chores seems unlikely though one would never know.

Of course, there are teams with existing head coaches who could hire Thibodeau on an assistant coach capacity. Teams like the Knicks and the Lakers could resort to that, the latter of which was rumored to be interesting the former Chicago Bulls head coach.

But this would all depend on Thibodeau. Would he accept an assistant coach role similar to what Alvin Gentry did with the Golden State Warriors? Or would he wait an entire season and see what coaching vacancies could be on the table after the 2015-16 season.

If so, there are a couple of teams who could change coaches if their teams don't churn out a respectable showing next season. The teams include the Toronto Raptors, the Washington Wizards and the Charlotte Hornets, all with head coaches that are being monitored closely.

Judging by what Thibodeau went through at Chicago, a break could be wise. Maybe not the entire season though since coaches could be fired at any point in time during the regular season, something we have seen in the past.
