It is never too late to chase the NBA dream and that is what veteran point guard Baron Davis plans to do this offseason after being out of the league since 2012.

Davis last saw NBA action during his stint with the New York Knicks in the 2011-12 lockout season where they reached the playoffs following a 36-30 record in the regular season.

The 36-year-old athlete helped New York to its first playoff win since 2001 after beating the Miami Heat in Game 5 89-87 of their first-round series that season.

Unfortunately that would be the last NBA game Davis would play after sustaining a partial tear of the patella tendon in his right knee also suffering a completely torn right anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and medial collateral ligament (MCL).

But after a long layoff from the sport Davis told SiriusXM NBA Radio, "This is the first time I'm going to put myself out there, I'm going to try out for some teams."

Davis was a proven scorer, a skilled facilitator, and a great ball distributor during his prime.

The two-time All-Star also has a vast experience in the league which includes seven trips to the playoffs.

If Davis gets signed this season, the best and most likely role he will be having is main backup for the team's starting point guard.

Factors to consider in acquiring the veteran playmaker are his age and health, which has been an issue since his early years in the NBA.

Davis enjoyed the most success in his time with the Charlotte Hornets who drafted him in 1999 and moved to New Orleans before the 2002-03 season.

After that season he tallied his best offensive average as he was scoring 22.9 points per game during the 2003-04 season.

Davis spent one more season with the Hornets before being traded to the Golden State Warriors where he also found success and was with the team for four seasons.

Along with the Hornets, Warriors, and Knicks, Davis also played with the Los Angeles Clippers and the Cleveland Cavaliers.
