NBA trade rumors 2016: Brandon Jennings for Thaddeus Young trade not happening?

Detroit Pistons' Brandon Jennings is the subject of trade rumors again, and it will likely stay that way until the National Basketball Association (NBA) trade deadline lapses on Feb. 18.

It isn't the first time that Jennings is the center of trade talks, mostly involving teams in need of a point guard. The New York Knicks were previously linked to Jennings to help satisfy their point guard shortage.

Other teams allegedly involved in Jennings trade talks include the Houston Rockets and the Phoenix Suns but unfortunately, nothing really went beyond rumors.

Now, the Brooklyn Nets are being linked to Jennings, although Stan Van Gundy and the Nets have shot down the said rumors.

Attention on Jennings came up when the returning guard lost his starting spot to Reggie Jackson. Even though there doesn't seem to be issues on the part of the Pistons and Jennings himself, rumors have swirled with the belief that Jennings would want to join a team where he could be a starter.

With the Nets, that could have made sense. However, it becomes a bit odd when one thinks about the player he would be swapping places with.

Thaddeus Young was signed by the Nets in the offseason as one of the main pieces along with Brook Lopez. Hence, it makes no sense to suddenly put up someone who was given a good deal on the trading block when the player hasn't even completed one year of his contract.

The Pistons would have flourished with Young, a proven scorer who could give the Pistons frontline a big lift. However, that would mean that someone from the usual forwards may be seeing a dip in minutes, if not traded off eventually.

All these possibilities have now become immaterial with Van Gundy blasting the trade talks which he is obviously unaware of.

Nonetheless, this doesn't mean that Jennings' name is off the list of players who could be up for trade. It will likely remain that way until the NBA trade deadline lapses by next week.
