Despite all odds, "NCIS: LA" got renewed by CBS for a seventh season. According to the ratings chart by TV Series Finale, the show was at all-time low during season 6 ever since it was moved to a Monday night time slot. The renewal guarantees that the cliffhanger ending won't go unresolved. 

According to a report from Ecumenical News, the demographic ratings for season 6 dropped by 34 percent while viewership dropped by 37 percent. If this was any other show, then CBS would have cancelled it but despite the drop, "NCIS: LA" remains as one of the top five drama series in the network. 

The main draw to season 6 was that Callen would gain some new information about his father. He has been on the hunt for any new clue for a long time but some of the more recent episodes had to stall this plot arc in order to build up the events in Moscow, which was where the finale was set in.

In the finale, Callen learned that his father is most likely dead yet the last image the episode revealed was that of a man drinking his coffee while in possession of a mysterious coin. A report from Cartermatt indicates that this might be Callen's father, only pretending to be dead for unknown reasons. 

According to the report, season 7 will immediately address this cliffhanger ending and may be the primary plot for the first few episodes of the show. However, given how "NCIS: LA" interweaves the personal lives of the characters and the cases they handle, it might take some time to finally see Callen's backstory resolved. 

It is possible that the mysterious man will give hints and clues to Callen sprinkled in numerous episodes until the two finally face off and Callen gets to reunite with his father. 

"NCIS: LA" season 7 is set to premiere this fall.
