Things will heat up and get extra dangerous for the team of Los Angeles's Office of Special Projects when "NCIS: Los Angeles" returns in January for the remaining episodes of the show's seventh season.

According to the official synopsis for the episode titled "Core Values," Special Agents Kensi Blye (Daniela Ruah) and Marty Deeks (Eric Christian Olsen) will investigate a case that requires them to go undercover.

The synopsis obtained by Futon Critic reads:

"Kensi and Deeks go undercover at a decommissioned nuclear power plant as the team investigates the radiation poisoning of a Gunnery Sergeant moonlighting as a security guard there."

According to previous speculations, both Kensi and Deeks have to act fast to know why the Gunnery Sergeant was murdered and who the culprit behind the poisoning is before they end up being poisoned themselves.

Meanwhile, recent news revealed that "NCIS: Los Angeles" is in danger of being cancelled after the current season because of its low viewership ratings.

According to Design & Trend, the "NCIS: Los Angeles" season 7 is having a hard time getting a significant viewership growth.

The show was only able to get an average rating of 1.2 percent audience share in the very important 18-49 age group since the start of the current season. The number is relatively low for the Los Angeles-based franchise, since its "NCIS" New Orleans counterpart can pick up an average 1.67 rating.

This could hurt the chances of the show to get an eighth season renewal if the audience ratings will fail to pick up.

At the moment, there is no word from CBS about the renewal of the Los Angeles edition of the franchise.
