A man turns out dead after a city-wide blackout in the upcoming episode of CBS series "NCIS: New Orleans."

In "Darkest Hour," TV Guide reports that Dwayne Pride (Scott Bakula) will be asked by her daughter to find an acquaintance who has gone missing. Her friend's fiancé is worried when he suddenly disappeared during the blackout. When the New Orleans squad goes to search for him, they find him already dead. What's more is that his corpse holds the answer to what caused the power failure in the city. Who murdered him and why? The Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) searches for clues to find out.

Last episode, Pride and Sonja Percy's (Shalita Grant) mettle was tested when the car they were riding to escort a key witness got ambushed. The two were sent to Texas to assist Marc Maslow (Jay Thomas), the only person who could testify for the trial of a notorious arms dealer. For Pride, it was also a personal thing, as he was the one who sent the criminal behind bars. When his first witness died due to a car bomb, Pride got blamed for the entire incident.

In his mission to prove that Hugo Garza (Alex Fernandez) was guilty of stealing properties of the Navy and weapons trafficking, he promised the victim and his widow that he would keep him safe. The witness was the accountant of the criminal, hence privy to valuable information that could seal the deal for Garza.

Unfortunately, testifying meant relocating, changing their names and not contacting their families. The victim wanted to go home, and the one instance he managed to evade his bodyguards ended up badly.

Pride was forced to get a new witness, but this time, he had to settle for a crook. He was a former partner of the first witness and he knew a little about the arms dealer. In exchange for testifying, his jail time due to racketeering charges would be reduced. When armed men ambushed them while on their way to the trial, Pride thought it was Garza's directives. But when it became apparent that the target of the bad guys was him, he had to do some rethinking.

It turned out the culprit of both incidents with the witnesses was not Garza, but a hitman of Zed Hasting's (Patrick Brennan) army, which Pride helped dissolve. Its leader was still peeved at the agent because of what happened and he wanted him dead. Maslow was a decoy, whom they paid to set up the whole thing. Fortunately, things ended well, with the agents able to bring the witness to the trial as well as apprehend the killer.

"NCIS: New Orleans" airs at Tuesdays at 9 p.m. EST on CBS.
