The team will have another investigative mind when "NCIS: New Orleans" returns for season 3.

CBS announced that actress Vanessa Ferlito landed a regular role in the third season of the action procedural crime drama spin-off. She is set to portray the character named Agent Garlan, an FBI special agent with a mysterious past who was assigned to return to the Crescent City to share her investigation expertise to the NCIS team.

But could the sexy, sharp law enforcer's by-the-book style jive well with the rest of the NCIS team members?

Fans should also wait to see if the new character also have a previous link with a member of the NCIS team in New Orleans. Will this affect her working and personal relationship with Special-Agent-in-Charge Dwayne Pride (Scott Bakula) and the other members of the team such as Lucas Black (Christopher LaSalle), Dr. Loretta Wade (CCH Pounder), Sebastian Lund (Rob Kerkovich), Sonja Percy (Shalita Grant), Meredith Brody (Zoe McLellan), and Patton Plame (Daryl "Chill" Mitchell)?

"NCIS: New Orleans" executive producer Brad Kern revealed that they are very happy to have Ferlito on the show.

"We're beyond excited to have Vanessa join our show and look forward to adding her distinctive personality and edge to our amazing NCIS: New Orleans cast," the executive producer said.

This is not the first time that the actress will appear in a crime procedural drama. She has appeared on various shows, including "Law & Order," and "CSI: Miami." She was also part of the main cast of "CSI: NY" as police detective Aiden Burn during its first two seasons.

She was also a part of other popular TV series, such as "Graceland" from 2013 to 2015, "24" from 2003 to 2004, and two episodes of "The Sopranos."

Ferlito's character will be introduced in the premiere episode of "NCIS: New Orleans" season 3, which will air Sept. 30.
