"NCIS" is set to reveal the fate of Agent Gibbs, who was shot during a mission in the finale of season 12. In the first episode of season 13, which is titled "Stop the Bleeding," Gibbs will get the medical attention he needs.

Meanwhile, Michael Weatherly, who plays Agent Tony Dinozzo, has shared to TV Fanatic details regarding what Gibbs' situation is doing to the series and where it could be headed. The actor said that the series undergoes nonstop "revolutions," which involve the departure of characters. Weatherly recalled the exit of Sasha in season 2, Lauren in season 5 and Cote in season 10.

"Big changes do require a recalibration and right now the show is undergoing kind of a metamorphosis that isn't because of anything external but more of an internal change for the first time," he said. "Part of it had to do with Gibbs getting shot last year and the change that brought about but I think there's something fundamental shifting in the sands of NCIS."

He emphasized that Gibbs' story will be the "big story point" in season 13. Weatherly then went on to explain how "sad" Gibbs is as a character, enumerating the reasons his life isn't the best to live. The actor recalled that the agent has no wife or partner with him and is just "living with all these ghosts." The actor said that Gibbs is unable to move on and is trapped.

Indeed, if Gibbs bites the dust in the upcoming season, it would feel like he hasn't fully lived. And this might just be the reason he can get a second chance at life and actually live it this time.

According to Weatherly, the cast and crew are in the middle of shooting the third episode for "NCIS" season 13 and is preparing to film the fourth one. The new season starts Sept. 22.
