Major changes are expected to welcome fans when "NCIS" season 14 debuts.

It can be remembered that the series bid farewell to one of its most beloved characters, Tony DiNozzo (Michael Weatherly), in season 13. This means that the series will introduce several new characters in the upcoming season.

Executive producer Gary Glasberg told TV Guide that they planned to start the new season of NCIS with something new to lead the show towards a new direction.

Three new series regulars will join the cast in the upcoming season, including returning cast member Duane Henry whose role as M16 Officer Clayton Reeves had been promoted as series regular. The team will also add Special Agent Nick Torres and Special Agent Alex Quinn next season. The characters will be portrayed by Wilmer Valderrama and Jennifer Esposito respectively.

Both new characters will play a heavy role in the season premiere of "NCIS" season 14 titled "Rouge." According to the synopsis released by CBS on their website, "The NCIS team investigates a deadly car explosion in D.C. that connects to Special Agent Nicholas "Nick" Torres, who disappeared six months ago while on a deep undercover assignment in Argentina. Also, Gibbs asks NCIS Special Agent Alexandra "Alex" Quinn to shadow his team after rejecting eight agents she instructed and referred for the open position."

Meanwhile, speculations claimed that Weatherly might return to the series in a future episode of "NCIS" season 14 since Robert Wagner will reprise his role as Tony DiNozzo Sr.

Glasberg revealed that the former senior field agent who decided to begin a new life with his young daughter will still be mentioned in the premiere episode, but his team will try their best to move forward in spite of his absence. However, both the actor and the producers of the show have yet to comment on the said speculations.

"NCIS" season 14 premieres on Tuesday, Sept. 20, at 8 p.m. ET on CBS.
