"NCIS" is one of the 15 shows that was renewed by CBS for the 2015-2016 season, which means that the long-running police procedural show will come back for its 13th season. But before the show returns for another run, the NCIS team will be losing one of its best guys in the cliffhanger finale of season 12.

Actress Emily Wickersham, who portrays the role of Eleanor Bishop in the series, confirmed that a highly emotional ending will shock the fans in the season 12 finale dubbed as "Neverland."

"I don't want to give too much away. We leave it as a cliffhanger and there will be more to come in the beginning of next season, especially after 'Neverland.' It will ramp up in the first few episodes of the next season, and it will be surprising," the actress said.

She also mentioned that a very surprising loss will end the season, saying, "We lose someone who the team is really fond of. I know a lot of fans really love this character. I think it will be quite a shock. So, there is motivation that comes with that death."

Does this mean that the rest of the NCIS team will be avenging the death of their fellow when the series resumes for season 13?

The finale episode of "NCIS" season 12 is scheduled to air Tuesday, May 12.

Despite its rather dismal ratings, with an average of 2.45 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 17.36 million viewers, CBS decided to order another season of "NCIS" since it has built a very strong following from the time it premiered in 2003.

Aside from Wickersham, "NCIS" stars Mark Harmon as NCIS chief Jethro Gibbs, Michael Weatherly as Agent Anthony DiNozzo, Pauley Perrette as Forensic Specialist Abby Sciuto, and David McCallum as Chief Medical Examiner Ducky Mallard.
