A new Asus Zenfone 2 (ZE551ML) variant should be out by now over in Taiwan, something that will offer a slight upgrade compared to the original Zenfone 2.

The new variant will reportedly offer 128GB of internal storage which is twice the size that the previous Zenfone 2 offered.

The new variant is a follow-up to the record sales that the original Zenfone 2 churned. The original Zenfone 2 which had 64GB of storage sold over 100,000 units in Taiwan. Much of that is credited to the fact that the Asus Zenfone 2 carried a pretty affordable price (starting at $199) while at the same time offering some high-end specifications.

The new variant with bigger storage will reportedly be priced starting at $387, almost twice the price of the original Zenfone 2. With a jacked up price, it remains to be seen if the demand will be the same or better.

To recall, the original Asus Zenfone 2 comes with a 5.5-inch LCD display (1080x1920) and is powered by a 2.3 GHz quad core 64-bit Intel Atom Z3580 processor. It also comes with 4GB of RAM, offers a 13MP main camera, and 5MP front-facing camera.

The Zenfone 2 is dual-SIM capable which should be flexible for folks who have more than one line to use. It will be equipped with a 3,000 mAh battery and will run on Android 5.0 Lollipop out of the box.

While the Asus Zenfone 2 was originally set for Taiwan only, it somehow managed to show up in certain online retailer sites like Amazon and Groupon.

With regards to the Asus Zenfone 2 (128GB), there is no word yet on whether the device will be limited to Taiwan though basing it on how the 64GB version went, it wouldn't be surprising if the said device would also debut in the international scene later on.
