Fans of the "Gears of War" series might need to upgrade in order to play the next installment in the series.

The "Gears of War" franchise is one of the must-have games for owners of the Xbox 360. Most of the titles under the franchise remained as the best of most console exclusives ever released. There are four so far: the first "Gears of War" released 2006, "Gears of War 2" in 2008, and the third, "Gears of War 3" in 2011. The latest is "Gears of War: Judgment" that was released in 2013. All in all, the franchise has sold more than 22 million copies.

With the expansion of Microsoft's console line up via the launch of Xbox One, fans are excited about what it would mean for the series. Microsoft bought the franchise from Epic Games, and tasked Black Tusk Studios for the development of the fourth installment of the game.

Most of the games that were exclusives for the Xbox 360 got their current-gen console counterparts, and vice-versa; titles that were released for the Xbox One got their 360 counterparts. However, it seems that the next "Gears of War" installment will not get this treatment.

In a tweet by Jack Felling, one of the next game's developers, it was revealed that the upcoming "Gears of War" game will be an Xbox One exclusive, and Black Tusk Studios will not develop an older-gen console version.

This is the most recent update about the game, with the last one being made late last year by Xbox boss Phil Spencer, most pertaining to the game's progress and that the story will not be a reboot, but rather a new plot with the dark and gritty roots of the original game. In other news, Microsoft has also confirmed that they are not developing a "Marcus Fenix Collection", reportedly a bundled remastered content of the first three games.
