After the highly unexpected proposal that happened at the 11th hour before the season finale of the "New Girl" season 4, fans of FOX's hit sitcom have gotten quite excited to find out what's in store for Jess (Zooey Deschanel), Nick (Jake Johnson), Winston (Lamorne Morris), and the newly engaged Schmidt (Max Greenfield) and Cece (Hannah Simone) when the series returns for season 5.

The cast of the show as well as series creator Liz Meriweather talked about the future of the characters and the events that will take place next season, especially about Schmidt and Cece's impending wedding.

According to Greenfield, the first episode for season 5 is going to focus on their engagement party. He also told Us Weekly that viewers will meet Cece's mother, who might or might not approve of Schmidt for her daughter. The actor also said that his and Simone's characters will experience several road bumps before they would be able to actually have a wedding.

On the other hand, Simone said that she is excited to see Cece and Schmidt back together after being apart for the last two seasons because she missed hanging out with Greenfield. She also added that more focus will be given to the pair, and fans will start learning more about their personal backgrounds and history this time.

Meanwhile, Meriweather discussed the episodes in season 5 wherein viewers won't see lead character Deschanel because of her pregnancy. According to the series creator, the first episode that she will miss is called "No Girl," and it will focus on the guys. She also explained to Hollywood Reporter how Jess will be absent for a short time.

"Jess gets sequestered on a jury," Meriweather said. "The idea behind it was to be able to do those pastel courtroom sketches, so you could still see her in the jury. It's a little weird, but we're having fun with it. It's a way to have all of the guys check in with her. They watch the news reports on the trial. And they show being set in L.A., this is a city where celebrities get into trouble and juries really do get sequestered."

Also, fans are looking forward to seeing the dynamics between Nick and Jess next season after their feelings for each other were brought up in the finale of season 5.

Meriweather also mentioned that Coach (Damon Wayans, Jr.), who exited the series during the season 4 finale, might also return in season 5 to attend Schmidt and Cece's wedding.
