"New Girl," the Fox series starring Zooey Deschanel, is airing its final episodes for 2015. The fairly popular series has been on radar for some time due to the fact that Damon Wayans Jr. will be making an exit in season 3 and will not be featured in season 4. Wayans, who plays Coach in the series, made the decision to take on other pilot offers and make an exit with the conclusion of the third season.

Wayans had left the series once previously after filming the pilot, owing to the fact that his other show, "Happy Endings," got picked up. But when that was cancelled, he made a comeback on "New Girl" as Coach. The actor has been with the show for about a year and is now ready to make his exit again in the third season. He will be appearing in all the remaining episodes of the season.

Executive producer Liz Meriwether jokingly stated that she was working on designing an exit for Wayans in such a way that he would be open for several more returns during the subsequent seasons.

Alhough it sounds a lot like bad news, there is speculation that the exit is in good taste from a broader perspective as it would leave more creative scope for the writers to weave in more substantial storylines for the other characters of the series.

In a statement to TVLine, Wayans made it clear that he is extremely grateful for having been given the opportunity to return as Coach in the third season. He also stated that he had one of the best experiences in his career in working with the extremely talented crew and cast members of "New Girl."

Wayans starred in the 2014 movie "Let's Be Cops" accompanied by his co-star in "New Girl," Jake Johnson.
