Schmidt (Max Greenfield) and Cece's (Hannah Simone) relationship will be put to test in the upcoming season of Fox's comedy series "New Girl."

Yibada reports that trouble will erupt for the engaged couple on their wedding day, when Cece's mom suddenly appears. It seems that she does not approve of her daughter's choice for a groom and will not hesitate to tell Schmidt what she feels. The website hints that fans should expect "major hiccups" in this storyline, suggesting that the couple may be facing a huge hurdle in their relationship in the face of obvious opposition.

Last season, Schmidt and Cece got engaged after circling around each other for too long. Show creator Liz Meriwether told The Hollywood Reporter that the upcoming installment will be featuring more of their wedding, with the excitement of planning getting the better of Schmidt.

Meriwether said, "We really love Schmidt and Cece together. They're funny. It felt like a way of generating story and comedy. Schmidt, in our idea for the season, becomes obsessed with the wedding planning in the way that, stereotypically, a woman would. He is very focused on throwing the best wedding of all time."

Meanwhile, Jess (Zooey Deschanel) will be missing in the first four episodes of season 5 to give way to the actress' real life pregnancy. Deschanel gave birth to her first child with husband Jacob Pechenik last July. To make up for her absence, the show is reportedly revising the script so as the other characters will have more airtime.

According to Realty Today, the premiere episode of the comedy series will be focusing on the male characters of the cast. Titled "No Girl," the opening show will reportedly be "a guy's episode." Meriwether said that it was an opportunity for them "to stretch" themselves before Deschanel returns in the fifth episode.

"New Girl" season 5 will air on Fox sometime next year.
