'LEGO Dimensions' release date update: trailer shows 'Back to the Future' mad scientist Doc Brown

Warner Bros Interactive

The excitement for the upcoming action-adventure video game "LEGO Dimensions" started to build-up after Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment released a new trailer showing actor Christopher Lloyd, the original Doc Brown actor in the epic "Back to the Future" movie franchise, introducing the game's team and fun packs.

In the new trailer, Doc Brown discovers a mysterious box containing the "LEGO Dimensions" action figures, as well as a set of instructions that he should follow in order to find out what the box is all about. In true mad scientist fashion, the "Back to the Future" doctor follows each step one by one until the very last piece shows that he has built a portal that will bring him to the "LEGO Dimensions" universe.

The game, developed by Traveller's Tales Games, has the same format as Activision's "Skylanders" and Disney Interactive's "Disney Infinity." Players can use the LEGO sets to build characters and other items which they can incorporate in the game using the Toy Pad that is compatible with the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Wii U, Xbox 360, and Xbox One game consoles.

The LEGO Dimensions Starter Pack, which will be released in North America on Sept. 27 and in Europe on Sept. 29, includes the "LEGO Dimensions" video game, the LEGO Toy Pad, the LEGO bricks that can be used to build the LEGO Gateway, and several characters like Wyldstyle from "The LEGO Movie," Batman from DC Comics, Gandalf from "The Lord of the Rings," as well as a Batmobile.

The "Back to the Future" level pack, which comes with a Marty McFly character, the DeLorean Time Machine, the Hoverboard, as well as the Hill Valley Time Travel Adventure, can also be purchased separately during the launch. The Doctor Brown fun pack will be released in the future.

Other soon-to-be released level packs include "Doctor Who," "The Simpsons," and "Portal 2." On the other hand, the team packs containing more characters, gadgets, and vehicles will also be released, including "Jurassic World," "Scooby-Doo," and DC Comics.
